Six-step sequence to find a job.
Step 1: Look at
newspaper advertisements for job search. Identify key words (some written as specific vocabulary of a profession), and match people with jobs.
Step 2: Listen
to a model conversation between two people discussing job offers and practice the
conversation. Practice again using the same conversation model but with
information from the advertisements in Step 1. In the final practice, try to move away from following the conversation model word for word.
Step 3: Listen
to several native speakers inquiring about jobs and match the conversations
with newspaper ads.
Step 4: Listen
again to conversations and note intonation variations. Use cue words to write
complete questions and answers involving comparative and superlative (better,
harder, most convenient, etc.).
Step 5: Pair work: information gap role play. Student
A plays the part of a potential candidate for a job. Make a note of
requirements and then call Human Resources Director. Student B plays the part
of a Human Resources Director. Use ads to offer suitable job conditions.
Step 6: Group
work discussions and decisions making task. Look at the set of advertisements
and decide which is the most suitable job offer.
